Knob With Encased Hex Head Screw
thingiverse
This 1/4" hex head cap screw enveloping knob is versatile, adaptable to various lengths of screws, making it suitable for numerous applications. As a mounting knob for cameras or flashes, the plug not only secures and conceals the screw but also enhances its aesthetic appeal. The plug features a lip designed to snap into the knob, retaining the screw in place while maintaining an attractive appearance. While each printer's precision may differ, you'll need to experiment with varying XY scales to achieve the perfect fit for the plug within the knob. For optimal results, I recommend printing the plug at 96% of its size. The plug is designed for a 1/4-20 screw but can also accommodate a 6M screw when printed at approximately 95%. Adjustable print scales enable this plug to fit an array of screw diameters. To assemble, first print the knob part and then the appropriately sized plug. Insert the hex head machine screw, securing it with a dab of epoxy if necessary. Finally, snap the plug into place, ensuring that the larger lip engages first. Align and press the high side in using a vice or pliers. The recessed design of the knob should hold the plug securely without glue, allowing for easy screw removal by tapping it out.
