Let's give this adjustment a go. Perhaps the diameter of this hole is indeed slightly off, resulting in a tighter fit than ideal. To remedy this situation, submerge the circular component attached to the turning mechanism in boiling water for a short duration, which will temporarily enlarge the opening. Once this is done, attempt to attach it again and see if that does the trick!
