Knitting Machine AW1 Changeover Cams
thingiverse
Changeover Cams for Silver Reed Knitting Machine AW1 Weaving Arm Silver Reed machines were sold under various names depending on their country of origin. Studio, Singer, Empisal, and KnitMaster are just a few examples. The AW1 Weaving Arm is designed to fit standard gauge (4.5mm) machines SK326, 327, 328, 329, 560, 580, 260, 360, 700, and 740. Although modifications can supposedly be made for fine gauge machines, the Changeover Cams only fit standard gauge models. With the AW1 Weaving Arm, you can weave a larger yarn through your machine's stitches. However, this process requires manually moving the yarn from one side of the carriage to the other after each row when using the standard presser foot. The AW1 Weaving Arm automates this task by triggering the cam lever on either side of the knitted garment. Most AW1 Weaving Arms are missing their original Changeover Cams, which need to be placed on either side of the garment and trigger the cam lever. Without them, you must manually manipulate the cam lever on each row. After months of searching, I finally obtained a set of original Changeover Cams for my AW1 Weaving Arm. From these cams, I created a 3D printed replacement model to replace the lost originals. When supplied with the machine, you typically receive two sets of Changeover Cams - one for each side of the garment. Although only one Cam is used on each side when knitting individual garments, it's recommended to place both Cams on the bed together when creating full-bed garments to ensure proper cam lever operation.
