Knife Switch
thingiverse
This was inspired by LoboCNC's Frankenstein Light Switch Plate: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:649284 Designed to fit UK styles of light switches. Print Settings Printer: Supports: Yes Notes: The supports were required for the handle, all other shapes are self-supporting. How I Designed This Measuring up was based around a Slim Profile 1 Gang Light Switch from Home Base, while "own brand" packaging had "Folio" branding on the inside. The overall size was limited by the print bed, making this the biggest thing I've printed so far. The switch piece is designed to give users an opportunity for "tuning" different switch panels and profiles - bodies seem similar in design. The original design had a lip all around for securing under the switch, but the notch was removed to allow the plate to be passed through without un-wiring the switch. Front and Back plates reasonably snap together, allowing for a captive M3 screw to securely fasten them together. In this case, with a wing nut for added looks. Assembly Remove the screws holding the switch to the wall (take care, live parts may be exposed - isolate the circuit at the fuse box). Slip the switch through the back plate and re-secure it to the wall. If using M3 screws to secure the front and back plates, fit them before placing the back plate. Clip on the Front Plate (attach fasteners if used) Put Handle and Switch Piece in place and fit pin. Note: If you're building with a different switch as the basis of your construction, check dimensions or amend the switch piece to suit any differing profile.
