I really like this kind of knife sharpener. From my experience, it's much more efficient than any other manual sharpener - most kitchen knives are considerably sharper after being moved through just a few times. When my ancient sharpener broke, I bought a new one made of metal. But it didn't work well and didn't even survive its first use (check the picture). I've designed a new sharpener body, printed in ABS, smoothed with acetone for easier cleaning, inserted washers from the old one - and it works well on the first try. You should be able to make one using new washers. This design needs two sizes of washers with the same hole diameter - 6mm in my case, but you can use the customizer (or edit the source) for any other washer size. There are small washers between each pair of large washers, and if one side starts with a large one, then the second starts with a small one, so that every large washer on one screw meets a small washer on the other screw. Washers with sharp rough edges should work better. My print uses regular steel washers, not stainless steel - these are softer and might get adjusted by the repeated sharpening into a better shape. Corrosion was never an issue, you don't sink the tool into liquids, but greasing is possible and might improve the sharpening, although I never held it for necessary.
