I had two 1 inch cube rare-earth magnets that i got from amazon for pretty cheap and have wanted to make a knife sharpener for a while. The magnets are epoxied from underneath and there are little channels to allow the excess epoxy out. Be super careful with the magnets they are challenging to handle.

You'll need a couple of M5 screws and nuts and a 5/6 bolt 2 inches long as well as 2 385mm (or longer) 8mm hardened steel rods (like 3d printers use). Cut one of the bars into two 95mm lengths for the support legs and the remainder will be the upright bar.

Parts for the bar came from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2629911. You'll need either Apex sharpening stones or this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2645800 and sandpaper. You are supposed to snap little wedges to hold the paper, but I found contact adhesive works out better. Use the other full length bar, a spring that slides over it, and a few M3 screws and nuts.

That should be all and thank you to the two folks that made the other parts!

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Prusa

Printer:

i3 MK3

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

.20

Infill:

20%

Filament: Hatchbox PLA Black

Notes:

Make sure you flip over the frame and knob before printing.

Category: Tools
