Kneeling torch bearer

myminifactory

Excavated near Luoyang, capital of the Eastern Zhou dynasty (770–256 BCE), this small sculpture depicts a kneeling man grasping a tube-like vessel with his outstretched hands, possibly serving as a torch bearer in a tomb. The figure is draped in a snug-fitting garment that wraps from left to right and secured by a narrow belt. A distinctive head covering resembling an open helmet is characterized by its broad back and peaked top, which gives way to a narrow tongue-shaped band at the forehead.
