Arms and hands are positioned in such a way that these angelic figures originally served as candlestands on either side of an altar. Candles lit during Mass illuminated the altar and symbolized Christ as light, evoking this powerful symbolism. These statues were bought from the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, likely originating from a church backed by the influential Strozzi family, wealthy bankers.
