A spool holder for use within an AU$4 5L Anko food container as sold by KMart. Should suit spools with an inner diameter of between 20mm and 60mm, up to approximately 80mm across. Designed with 1KG spools and horizontal mounting in mind but may be able to support heavier spools in a vertical orientation. Requires 18mm or ¾" holes in the lid and tub for mounting - use a spade bit for a cleaner cut as these containers are quite brittle. A full unit requires 1x Post, 1x Flange, 1x Roller, 2x Through Bolts, 2x Bearing Cups, and 4x Through Bolt Washers to be printed, with 2x 608 bearings. Optionally included is an externally accessible Winder, while a 608 bearing substitute is also provided (though the bearings give a better seal and smoother motion). Final assembly pictured with 40cm of PTFE tube (4mm/2mm), silica desiccant, and a fresh 1kg spool of 3DFillies clear PETG using my previously submitted Mini PTFE Tube Grommet: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4063602 For a larger spool, or just something more visually impressive, try my 50mm-100mm mechanical variant: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4200501 NB These Anko containers arenot air tight. I highly recommend running a bead of something (silicone, hot glue, etc) to make a better seal. It's a little tall but the wide base means that shouldn't be a problem. How I Designed This =================== The main design considerations came down to the screw thread and the insert for the lower bearing mount. After much experimentation, I determined that the magic number for the thread was 0.5mm. That is to say that the inner and outer radius of the "bolt" are 0.5mm smaller than the inner and outer radius of the "nut" respectively. This produced the most consistent results between prints and required the least "cutting" to get clean motion. Note that this is NOT a standard thread, so standard taps and dies cannot be used to clean it. The lower bearing mount was more straight forward. Using just a 0.1mm increase in radius for a tight fit made the peg very difficult to insert due to pressure build-up. To compensate for this, a 2mm hole through the peg allows for air to be squeezed out. I did try 1mm but this would often seal up during printing due to material drag.
