Klipsch 2.1 Speaker Grille
thingiverse
I stumbled upon a Klipsch ProMedia THX 2.1 amplified speaker system at a second-hand store for a mere $15. The catch? One of its grills was nowhere to be found, so I had to make do. As it turns out, this speaker system has a rather glaring design flaw - one of the speakers kept cutting in and out. And if that wasn't enough, the left/right speaker connections (mono 3.5mm jacks) were notorious for causing intermittent connections. No wonder these systems keep popping up at second-hand stores! Fortunately, there's an easy fix. Simply open up the speakers (just four screws in the grille pin sockets), disconnect those spade wiring connectors, and then use some heavy-duty pliers to yank out the faulty jack from inside. Next, solder a length of speaker wire onto the blades where the spades used to be - don't forget to observe polarity! Then, thread that new wiring through the hole where the jack was, and tie a knot (inside the cabinet) to take the stress off those solder connections. The result? The system now sounds better than brand new.
