I grew up inspired by a popular toy from back in the 70s. My mom introduced these to me at a young age and now I want to pass on this fun activity to my kids. Choose one of the two STL files provided and print a pair. Find a string (a shoelace works great) and thread it through each ball. The original uses a keyring, but I'll leave that up to you how you want to complete the final assembly. I left the string pretty long so I can adjust the length as needed. I might add the holder or handle if there's enough interest. Print Settings: Printer Brand: SeeMeCNC Printer: Rostock MAX Rafts: Doesn't matter Supports: Doesn't matter Resolution: 0.20mm Infill: 0% Notes: I set it to 0% infill but with 10 bottom and top layers with 10 shells. I don't think they're heavy enough, and if I reprint, I'd go for 50 shells to add some weight, which would make them almost solid. However, given the potential bruising from the lighter ones I made, they'll suffice. I used Nylon; see below. WARNING!! I believe they're making a comeback, but I need to warn you that they were pulled off the shelves due to the materials at the time had a tendency to explode if you "clacked" them hard enough (source). I used Taulman 618 Nylon for durability since the material is nearly indestructible. Understand the potential dangers and risks when selecting a material. Nylon Woes! What a pain it was to print! I successfully printed at 35mm/s @ 250C, bed @ 45C, and I used a 100 line brim. I used zero cooling and kept my printer shields up - curling was a definite issue so I printed with support; however, I provided another STL with support you can cut off which should provide better results (the bottom is just cosmetic, it doesn't impact the performance). For additional adhesion, I even taped down the brim! Well that was frustrating!! Stay down this time!!
