I drew inspiration for this children's book from ancient Japanese lore, specifically the myth of the nine-tailed fox known as a kitsune. These enigmatic creatures have been imbued with an array of personalities, ranging from mischievous troublemakers to wise, aged seers. In my tale, a spirited kitsune named Nikki selflessly grants wishes for her friends, but in doing so, she loses all but one of her magnificent tails. Crushed by the loss, she initially believes that her beauty has been irreparably lost. However, a compassionate friend gently breaks the news to her that true beauty lies not in physical appearance, but rather within the kindness and selflessness that shines through Nikki's heart. Through her unwavering dedication to helping others, Nikki discovers that her inner beauty far surpasses any external charm she may have once possessed. Furthermore, the wishes she granted have earned her dear friends who appreciate her for who she truly is: a kind, gentle soul with a heart full of love and compassion.
