Kitchen Sink Strainer
thingiverse
Our old kitchen sink strainers had a part that rested on top of the sink bottom around the drain opening. This created a barrier that would stop some water and small bits from flowing down into the strainer, so I decided to design a better strainer. The first 7 iterations all had a portion that dipped down into the lower part of the sink drain but it was a pain to clean the gunk out of there because it was such a small space. The handle came up in the middle of this smaller diameter part too, leaving little room to get your fingers in to clean out the debris. This is iteration 8 when I decided to give it a flat bottom for easier cleaning. It worked and to top that off, this one allows water to drain much better if it has a bunch of stuff in it. The old versions would block off the flow of water once the lower portion got blocked off. This design seems to be decent and solved the original issue I had with our old ones plus all the issues I designed into my attempts along the way. I printed this strainer with ABS because the PLA ones I tried originally get very soft when exposed to hot water and lose their shape. Hopefully, it will come in handy for someone out there!
