I used to work as a kitchen designer at a big-box retailer, and I realized how beneficial it would be to have props or examples of cabinets to help customers visualize spatial arrangements. So, I created a series of common cabinet sizes and types that I frequently encountered during my time quoting kitchens. My goal is to model some of the more unique and lesser-known cabinet types. All the cabinets were designed on a 1:1 scale, meaning you'll need to downscale them for printing purposes. After experimenting with different scaling options, I found that a 5% reduction strikes the perfect balance between material savings and usable print models. When it comes to cabinetry basics, most base cabinets measure 24 inches in depth and stand at an impressive 34.5 inches tall. Typically, a 1.5-inch countertop is added on top, elevating the height to 36 inches. Widths can range from as narrow as 6 inches to as wide as 48 inches, with incremental increases of 3 inches. Wall cabinets, on the other hand, boast a standard depth of 12 inches and can stretch up to 48 inches in height, with increments of 3 inches. Their widths also vary from 12 inches to 48 inches, although some specialty units like spice racks come in narrower sizes such as 6 or 9 inches. Some wall cabinets are double-deep at 24 inches deep, usually found above refrigerators.
