Kitchen Aid Waste disposal plug
cults3d
Recently, my cousin approached me with a request to fix her kitchen waste disposal unit's plug. The plug features a magnet that activates the unit when fitted, likely designed to prevent accidents while disposing of food waste down it. Unfortunately, the manufacturer no longer produces these plugs, and hers had broken off at the point where the aluminum alloy handle meets the nylon body. I drilled out the handle, tapped an M5 thread into its place, and then installed a stainless steel screw (M5 x 40mm) with loctite to secure it. The original nylon body of the plug has a slotted hole for the handle stem, which is held in place by a small dowel passing through the body. My initial attempt to tap out a thread was unsuccessful, so I designed and modeled an entirely new part - a round threaded hole that perfectly matches the M5 screw now attached to the handle. Once tightened, a 2mm drill through the set pin hole allows me to drift the original pin back into place, preventing the screw from coming loose when twisting the plug into the sink's drain hole. I'm hoping this solution might be helpful to someone else, and I'd appreciate any suggestions or ideas for improvement.
