A replacement part for the paddle gear in many KitchenAid hand mixers. It makes me angry when a company with a reputation like KitchenAid no longer supports their products. As far as I can tell, you can't buy this part anywhere. I printed this for a KHM5APWH7 mixer, but it should work in any mixer with the same gear. I printed this out of PETG, but the originals look like they're nylon. I'd be interested in field reports of how durable printed replacement gears are. On the left is the broken original gear. The little tabs at the end that keep the split ring spring retainer tend to break off, then the paddles won't stay in anymore. The second one is an intact original with the ring spring removed. It was making terrible noises sometimes when running. The last one is an earlier prototype of this model. The tabs are broken off of it as well. :) I've improved the design since then. To use, keep the two metal washers that go on the shaft from the original. Carefully remove the retainer clip from the original by expanding it just enough to get it off. Be careful not to push to much or it will deform. Backwards pliers that pry outward instead of inward are helpful here. Transfer the clip onto the printed gear, taking care not to put too much pressure on the tabs, which, like in the original design, can break off. If necessary, squash the retaining clip back down to fit. I'd also like to make a version of this that uses a plastic retaining tab setup instead of the original retaining clip. It wouldn't last as long, probably, but it would be nice for people who have lost the original clip, which is very common when the gear gets broken. I'd also like to make a support-free snap-fit version.
