KISS Shelf Spool Roller

KISS Shelf Spool Roller

The main goal of this design is to create a simple yet highly effective spool holder for Joel's (3D printing enthusiast) filament shelf in his workroom. The purpose behind this design is to minimize print time and material usage. There are two versions available, one that uses friction fit or superglue (depending on the printer's tolerances), and another that employs M3 bolts or screws. To assemble these parts, you will need a few additional components not included in the printed parts: four 608 bearings (skate bearings) and four M3*12 screws. These can be sourced from online retailers such as Amazon. For the kiss_minimal version, you will need to print the part eight times to obtain a set of four. If you prefer to use the recommended M3 bolt version, you should print kiss_m3_inside four times and kiss_m3_outside four times. Assembly is straightforward: if you printed the bolt-based version, simply hold one outside print and one inside print together with the bearing in the center, securing it with an M3 screw. Enter from the outside print (which has a larger opening), and the bolt head will secure flush. For the minimal version, you may be able to get away with just assembling everything and relying on friction for stability. However, if this is not sufficient, you can use a small amount of superglue to hold the parts together. Make sure the bearing is in place before applying glue. You will need to create four of these parts in total to complete the assembly. One advantage of this system is that it can support spools of any width. The use of bearings helps minimize drag and maintains print quality by reducing unnecessary friction. It's worth noting that printing several of these holders (for multiple printers) may be beneficial, but it's recommended to print them in a color that stands out from the rest of the shelf, as they will blend in with the surrounding spools.
