The Pan African superhero known as Black Panther is a fictional character from the Marvel Comics universe. Created by writer-editor Stan Lee and writer-artist Jack Kirby, he first appeared in Fantastic Four #52 (July 1966). He was originally conceived as a one-off character, but his popularity soon led to him becoming a regular member of the Avengers. T'Challa, Black Panther's secret identity, is the king of the fictional African nation of Wakanda.
