This is a redesign of a top mounted spool for the KP3S. My original spool holder has a tendency to push out of the roller due to a bad accident. Note: This requires an M5 tap. In a pinch, you can use a short M5 bolt to perform brute force threading on the softer 20/40 aluminum extrusion. Go slowly and be careful of shearing the bolt if you go down this route. I really really recommend some metric taps though. Materials: 2x M5 8mm (w/o spacer) or M5 20mm (with spacer). 2x 608zz bearings Same footprint as the original with a 45 degree angle. Uses the same roller. The spacer may or may not be needed to provide clearance at the maximum z height. In this design, I ended making a locking pin as it is much more robust and snaps on the main body. It sits just under the roller. Simply slide both the roller and pin through the roll and push down. To remove roll push up from the sides of the pin. There are also 5mm holes on the side for possible mounts for a filament guide, web cam, or LED. Small Update: V2 simply has more fillets on the main body as shown in CAD assembly and added .step file of the original.
