King's pencil holder
grabcad
I created a unique pencil holder that defied conventional designs. Most pencil holders looked like plain cups, lacking any flair or personality. I wanted to design one that would fit seamlessly into a treasure room filled with gold coins and precious gems, something a king might own. To achieve this, I started by building a square base 4 inches wide and long. Inside the square, I created a circle with a diameter of 4 inches. Next, I extruded the circle upwards at an angle, giving it a height of 0.75 inches. Then, I made another smaller circle and extruded it up to a height of 0.25 inches. I repeated this process on the second circle, but at an angle outwards so that the larger end was once again 4 inches in diameter. This new section added 2 inches to the overall height, giving the pencil holder its hourglass shape. Returning to the first circle, I created a new 4-inch circle and extruded it downwards, making it 1 inch tall. I then tapered the original square base to create four small surfaces around it. By sketching a circle onto each of these surfaces and extruding them upwards, I created poles that connected to the top of the pencil holder. To add depth and texture, I surrounded the central circle with 34 smaller spheres and 68 even smaller ones between them. Finally, I applied fillets to complete the design.
