Glezo or Gezo ruled as King of Dahomey from 1818 until his death in 1858. He seized power from his brother Adandozan through a coup backed by Afro-Brazilian slave trader Francisco Félix de Sousa. Ghezo navigated turbulent times, marked by the British blockade of Dahomey's ports to halt the Atlantic slave trade. He ended Dahomey's subjugation to the Oyo empire but faced domestic unrest and pressure from Britain to stop the slave trade. Ghezo pledged to end the slave trade in 1852, yet revived efforts in 1857 and 1858. His son Glele succeeded him as king after possibly being assassinated in 1858.\r\n\r\nScan The World is a non-profit project initiated by MyMiniFactory, which aims to create a digital library of fully printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks worldwide for public access at no cost.
