Kinetic sculpture spring powered
prusaprinters
Introduction. I started by making the original model by KiMe. Everything printed and went great, but I could only get it to run for about 3min. I wanted it to run longer. After searching for a while I found another model by pkccpkcc His ran alot longer and used a force spring from a tape measure. I really liked KiMe's design so I used pkccpkcc's spring mechanism and designed it to work with KiMe's. That one ran great. 38mins, but there was an issue with the latches on the back of the mechanism that caused it to bind and release all the tension. So back to the drawing board. I did some more research and watched videos by David C. Roy who is a master of these sculptures. I then designed my own mechanism and this is the outcome. It runs for about 55mins. I hope you enjoy building this as much as I did. You will need one of each part unless noted here 30x wing_part_130x Wing_part 24x pawl 14x pawl 1.23x bottom springs2x top spring with holeI forgot to add the spacers to the blow up views. There's a small spacer that goes before the bottom wing wheel and the longer spacer goes between the 2 wheels. If you are having trouble activating the switch on the end wheel, add a weight to one of the wings. I added a photo to help. I used a bearing and taped it but ended up using 2 m8 nuts. It trial and error where to place it. When wheel 1 is at 12 o'clock a weight should be placed somewhere around 12:15. This it gives it more momentum to trigger the latch to drop. You dont want to add too much weight, that would slow down how many turns it goes around. The front wheel doesn't need any weights. I hope this helps. If you like this model feel free to buy me a coffee of you like. Happy printing https://www.buymeacoffee.com/donculnan10/05/23- fixed #16. outer ring 1.2 missing 4 holes.
