Kinetic cyclic scissors
prusaprinters

A kinetic artwork consisting of a deployable grid of scissors. Joint work with Kyle VanDeventer.

<oembed url="https://youtu.be/jjUpJCTPXaM"></oembed>

As well as the print, you will need the following metric nuts and bolts:

M3 8mm long x 23

M3 10mm long x 3

M3 12mm long x 16

M3 locknut x 42

(I use nylon insert nuts.)

The print consists of arms labelled “ac3” through “ac6”, and “db3” through “db6”. Each “ac” is paired with a “db” with the same number to make a “scissor”, with the pivot being an M3 8mm bolt, held in place with a locknut. Beware that sometimes the “ac” arm is above the “db” arm, and sometimes it is below.

For full instructions on how to connect the arms together, see the construction image in the gallery. The print also includes “washers” used to space the arms at their correct heights along bolts at the boundary of the design.
