A 3D scanner utilizing a Kinect, Arduino, and stepper motor can be hung for testing purposes; however, it's not yet functional. The code is still under development, borrowing heavily from Kyle McDonald's Makerbot work. Plans are to sketch the design, with options between Java (familiar) or C++ through OpenFrameworks. Currently at v0.2, the solution for hub has been defined with a 4-piece design featuring bearings. In v0.15, physical testing and modifications of outerJoint and innerJoint have taken place, including radial support screws, modified teeth, and refined build methods; failed code is retained with explanations. The openSCAD file framework for object and base line has been created at v0.1, with only arm joints printed and tested. Instructions include modifying openscad settings as needed, exporting all modules, attaching motor and Arduino, uploading the code, hanging over the object, connecting the computer (with cable routing plans in progress), and scanning for printing.
