Kindle Lyre Adapter
thingiverse
I typically read sheet music for brass instruments from a TFT screen tablet. However, I found that when performing in direct sunlight, the notes were somewhat challenging to decipher. I considered whether holding my refurbished Kindle 5 with an E-ink display close enough to my eyes would make reading music outdoors significantly easier. Since I frequently need to wear reading glasses anyway, I simply needed to ensure that the magnifying readers provided the correct level of enlargement when held in place by a lyre adapter. This is a device designed to hold a Kindle 5 and accommodate a lyre, which is commonly used in marching bands. The design comes in various shapes and sizes to fit different marching band instruments. While the included design is specifically for the Kindle 5, it can be customized to suit other E-ink display models. The primary requirement for printing the device is to use a mostly rigid flexible filament such as Pxmalion's black TPU flex filament. I've included one version of the model in the downloadable printer files that features tree supports which allowed me to print my functional prototype. The supports are minimal because they must be trimmed away rather than pulled away after printing.
