Background:

The Childs portable (5yr old) DVD player mounted on the back of the front seat stopped working. As a replacement, I came up with this mount for an old Kindle HD8 (gen 8). After creating the mount for my needs I adapted it to work with the newer Gen 10 kindles. This should make the mount usable by more people. If the gen 10 conversion seems a little like an after thought, well, it was ;).

Gen8 is not as high but is longer.

Gen10 is taller but is shorter.

Will it fit your car?

I have no idea!!!

It was created to fit a Nissan Rogue (back) headrest. the pins are approximately 12.6mm-12.75mm in diameter. span 111mm out side to outside and 98.8mm center to center. if your headrest is the same it should fit. if the span is about the same, but the pin is smaller or larger it should be easy to change the “headrest Lug” to fit.

Adapter Added- front headrest is wider. 150.3 center to center. this adapter allows you to install on the front headrest. just CA glue the lugs on to adapter.

Parts:

US: ( home depot)

#10-24 threaded rod. cut down to 6.25in (158.75mm)

2x 10-24 nuts

nut catch cavity is 9.5mm x 4.2mm(height). so I would think you could use 5mm rod. If needed I could add a 5mm version if I had the specs on the nut.

The spacer, lug holes, and adjustable track are all set to 5mm.

Print Instructions:

All parts need to be printed in a high temp filament PETG, ABS or above. This print WILL NOT survive in a car printed in PLA. (you've been warned)

All files should be printed as orientated. No supports needed except for: the “Latch” and "Latch_Mirror" files. These should get paint on supports for the bottom of the circular pins. (I've printed them without supports and cleaned up the bottom on the pin, but it's better to add the support.)

Knobs: make sure to put in a pause to insert the nuts right before the cavity is closed off. there is a single “sacrificial” layer that is printed over the nut. This should be cleared out when you run the screw on the knob the first time.

any files with a X2 at the end indicate you have to print 2 parts.

the Mirrored parts:

You can mount the corners and latches on either side.

Corner(Gen8) the longer orientation of the corner is always the “side.”

Corner(Gen10) the flush keystone is always the "side."

Assembly:

Headrest lug was designed so the teardrop pointed up, but if it fits the other way for you then go with it.

Use CA glue to attach the pieces together. (rough up the areas to be glued to help with adhesion)

Glue the spreader to each mount.

Glue corners to one side and latches to the other side.

On the latch, I use a little glue only from the hole back. To allow the latch to get more flex.

Screw one knob on to the #10 rod

Feed rod through mount channel through headrest lug. Insert spacer and then line it up through the other channel and headrest lug.

Then, use the 2nd knob to tighten everything up.

Once mounted in the car you can loosen one knob to adjust the pitch of the kindle then, tighten it back up again.
