In the Urban Survey, Bradley et al describe it as a 'Mermaid stone' from the 16th to 17th centuries. At the western end of the nave lies a limestone panel featuring a mermaid carved in relief. She wears long tresses that cascade down her back, with one strand held delicately by her right hand. Her pendulous breasts are prominent, and she grasps a comb/mirror with her left hand. The lower part of her body is shaped like a fish, while a snake-like creature seizes her tail in its jaws.
