Kiekie marae is situated just north of Waipiro Bay. Its main hapū include Te Whānau a Rākairoa and Te Whānau a Te Haemata from Ngāti Porou iwi. The wharenui is known as Hau. Kiekie marae has ancestral ties to the waka Horouta, the awa Kiekie, and the moana Tokomaru.
