ABOUT THE ARCHITECTURE: According to recent archaeological discoveries near Van Mieu (Temple of Literature) in Hanoi, the distinctive architectural features of Khue Van Cac belong to the Ly Dynasty (1010 – 1225) and Tran Dynasty (1225 – 1400). The lives of students during ancient times are reflected in these artifacts and seem surprisingly simple and pure compared to city dwellers. A total of 82 steles list the names of 1306 doctors who received doctoral titles at 83 royal examinations held between 1442 and 1779, located within the Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam area. Long after Van Mieu's construction was complete, additional architecture on its site was erected. Khue Van Cac, or Pavilion of the Constellation of Literature, was built during the Nguyen Dynasty (1802 – 1945). In 1802, King Gia Long began his reign and chose Hue as his capital. In 1805, Nguyen Van Thanh, commander of the Northern Citadel, ordered the construction of Khue Van Cac within Van Mieu's grounds. Meanwhile, he also instructed the building of surrounding walls around Van Mieu in 1883. https://www.visa-vietnam.org
