Khonsu Temple Chapel 12
sketchfab
The temple dedicated to Khonsu stands proudly in the southwest corner of the Karnak precinct. This sacred edifice honors the moon god Khonsu, offspring of Amun and Mut. The current temple structure dates back to Ramesses III's reign, with subsequent rulers adding their own embellishments over time. At its northern end, seven chapels showcase magnificent reliefs of Ramesses III and Ramesses IV. Between January 1st, 2015 and June 30th, 2018, ARCE spearheaded a conservation and documentation initiative in the temple, generously funded by USAID. This ambitious project trained 59 conservators from the Ministry of Antiquities, equipping them with essential skills for preserving Egypt's ancient heritage. The endeavor encompassed meticulous cleaning and conservation of six chapels within the temple, as well as structural repairs to ensure the monument's stability. Additionally, a photographic documentation training school was established for the Luxor inspectorate, while informative signage and visitor information were introduced to enhance the overall experience.
