The temple of Khonsu is situated in the southwest corner of the Karnak precinct. Dedicated to the moon god Khonsu, son of Amun and Mut, it stands as a testament to Egypt's rich history. The existing temple structure dates back to the reign of Ramesses III, who laid the foundation for this grand monument. Subsequent rulers further embellished the temple with their own artistic touch. At the north end of the temple, seven chapels beckon visitors to explore their intricate reliefs depicting Ramesses III and his son Ramesses IV. Between January 1st, 2015 and June 30th, 2018, ARCE spearheaded a groundbreaking project in collaboration with USAID funding. The mission focused on preserving and documenting the temple through intensive training sessions for 59 conservators from the Ministry of Antiquities. This extensive endeavor included meticulously cleaning and conserving six chapels within the temple complex. Additionally, structural repairs were undertaken to stabilize the monument and prevent further deterioration. A photographic documentation training program was also established for the Luxor inspectorate, equipping them with the skills necessary to preserve Egypt's cultural heritage. Furthermore, visitor information and signage were introduced to enhance the overall experience of exploring this ancient wonder. The model of the temple is courtesy of David A. Anderson, a renowned expert in archaeology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (www.sketchfab.com/danderson4 ; www.uwlax.edu/archaeology).
