Ryan Lafrance, an AIC student, designed this Khanda Pendant. According to sikhs.org, "The Khanda represents Sikhs, just like the Cross represents Christians or the Star of David symbolizes Jews. It embodies key Sikh concepts. The symbol gets its name from the double-edged sword (also called a Khanda) at its center. This double-edged sword is a metaphor for Divine Knowledge, its sharp edges distinguishing Truth from Falsehood. A circle surrounds the Khanda; this circle is the Chakar. The Chakar, a circle without beginning or end, signifies God's perfection as eternal. Two curved swords called Kirpans surround the Chakar. These two swords symbolize Meeri and Peeri - Temporal and Spiritual authority introduced by Guru Hargobind. They emphasize that a Sikh must balance spiritual aspirations with social obligations."
