Keyhole Hanger / Mount Plug

Keyhole Hanger / Mount Plug

After wasting hours trying to get my cheap keyhole router bit working properly, I decided it was time to try something new. I created a design that allows it to be used on the edge of a 3/4 inch thick board, mounting directly into a screw in the wall. It fits snugly into a 5/8 inch hole that's only half an inch deep. To get the perfect fit, I highly recommend using a forester bit to drill the hole. The screws need to have a head no wider than 1/4 inch and a shank of around 1/8 inch in diameter. I applied 5 minute epoxy to the hole before pressing in the plug. So far, they're working flawlessly! I haven't tested their weight capacity yet, but they seem pretty sturdy as long as they're glued in securely. Another advantage this design has over a keyhole router bit is that it should be more secure in the edge of a piece of plywood.
