Keyboard Pants

Keyboard Pants

thingiverse

Today was Fashion Hacking day featuring Diana Eng at NYC Resistor, and I decided to finally make those keyboard pants I've been wanting for so long. Inspired by a project seen ages ago on the internet, I got some cheap jeans from Fulton Mall and used flexible silicone keyboards that had been lying around. Cutting the keyboards in half proved challenging when it came to reconnecting the circuits or using conductive thread, so style points took precedence. The process involved scanning the keyboards, tracing vectors in Inkscape, importing into Corel Draw for lasercutting, and sewing around the edges before attaching a patch behind the keyboard. A fun afternoon project that combined hacking, clothing, and sewing, with a partially functional keyboard resulting in a Tetris-playing video.
