Key for outdoor water faucet Free 3D print model

Outdoor water faucets have a nasty habit of losing their plastic key during winter. When this happens next time, you can just print a brand new one on your 3D printer. The original key was printed in ABS plastic, which can sometimes need tweaking during the printing process - especially when working with overhangs. Instead of letting MakerWare create supports automatically, we decided to try an alternative approach and do it ourselves using netfabb Studio Basic. Inside this software, we created some flat box primitives that were then placed under areas where support was needed, and intersected them with the key's 3D model. This technique usually results in perfectly designed supports that hold just the overhang parts of a 3D printed item together securely. We chose bright green as the colour for the new key because it stands out easily on any ground it might fall onto, ensuring we can always spot it if it gets lost again - and who wants to go searching for it under their lawn mower or other hidden spots?
