A knife is more than just a tool, it's a trusted companion that performs best when properly cared for. The quality of your relationship with your knife directly affects the results you'll get from it. If you treat it right, it will always be there for you when you need it most. I recently stumbled upon an old Kershaw 1304BW knife buried in mud, caked with silt, sand, and clay. It was a mess! I brought it home to give it the TLC it so desperately needed. After disassembling the knife, I discovered that the nylon bushings, which serve as bearings for the blade's smooth operation, were severely damaged - distorted and pitted from their muddy ordeal. To fix this problem, I took precise measurements, created a 3D model of the bushings, and printed new ones. Once they were ready, I gave the knife a thorough cleaning, polishing, lubricating, reassembling, and sharpening to get it back in top shape. While this revived knife won't be my go-to everyday carry, it's now reliable enough to serve as a trusty toolbox companion.
