In the game, players take on the role of a space program director, tasked with designing and launching spacecraft under realistic physics simulation, and exploring the vast expanse of celestial bodies. The first publicly available version was released on June 24, 2011, on the official Kerbal Space Program store. The game also entered Steam's early access program on March 20, 2013, where it quickly gained a massive following. After years of development and refinement, the game was officially released out of beta on April 27, 2015. Today, Kerbal Space Program boasts an enormous community of players and modders, who have created thousands of user-generated content packs that enhance gameplay experience.
