I've been meticulously restoring vintage 1978 Kenner Xwings, a project that's captured my heart and fueled my creativity. I hunt for them in their broken state, specifically with mangled wings, and then breathe new life into these relics by printing fresh ones. Recently, I decided to transform a few of them into the iconic Poe Dameron Xwing. First, I carefully print two hinges using my 3D printer. Next, I insert a sturdy metal rod into the hinges, followed by all four wings, taking care to align them perfectly. To keep everything in place, I employ rubber bands to hold the wings together. Then, with precision and patience, I drip a thin layer of cyanoacrylate (CA) along the hinges, effectively gluing the wings to their joints. It's crucial to pay attention to the top and bottom markings on each wing to ensure they're correctly positioned. With the main structure in place, I proceed to carefully insert the wing set into the R2 mechanism, making sure it fits snugly and securely. This requires a delicate touch, as the wings need to be aligned precisely with the mechanism's components. For those who want to make attaching the cannons even easier, I recommend checking out this version that features magnetic cannons: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3845781
