The Kennedy Half Dollar Coin was first issued in 1964 as a memorial for assassinated President John F. Kennedy, authorized by Congress just over a month after his death. The coin is currently minted by the United States Mint and holds a value of 50 cents (50 US dollar cents). It comes in various metals - Copper-nickel clad weighing 11.34 grams with a diameter of 30.6mm, 40% silver clad weighing 11.50g, 90% silver weighing 12.50g and 2014 gold weighing 23.33g with thickness of 2.15mm. Due to its collectible nature, especially the silver coins, it hardly sees circulation and is mostly in demand among collectors who buy them from the mint at a premium. The coin's design has evolved over time, including Bicentennial designs in 1975 and 1976 and a special edition in 2014 made of 99.99% gold. Despite ample production, these coins are rarely seen in circulation due to their collector value.
