Developed by Ken Rand during the 1970s, this home-built experimental airplane aimed for a balance of affordability, simplicity, and speed. Employing composite materials like micro-bead foam, fiberglass cloth, epoxy, and wood, it had a lightweight body powered by a 36 to 75 horsepower VW engine. This enabled cruise speeds of up to 130 mph and top speeds of 140 mph. The aircraft had a 7.5-gallon fuel tank and offered a range of 400 miles, with mechanically retractable landing gears. It measured 12 feet in length and boasted a wingspan of 17 feet, 6 inches.
