This meticulously crafted model features near-scale construction, textured surfaces, and animatable control surfaces along with retractable landing gear. The propeller is animated, while the canopy opens to reveal details of the instrument panel, seat arrangement, and controls. Available in various formats and color schemes, this homebuilt experimental aircraft was designed by Ken Rand in the 1970s. It aimed for a fast, cost-effective single-seater that required minimal mechanical skills and had a lightweight composite frame (micro-bead foam, fiberglass cloth, epoxy, and wood). Powered by a 36 to 75 horsepower VW engine, it reached cruise speeds of 130 mph and a top speed of 140. The aircraft had a 7.5-gallon fuel tank and a range of 400 miles, with mechanically retractable landing gear. Measuring 12 feet in length and boasting a 17-foot, 6-inch wingspan, this innovative design showcased Rand's ingenuity and commitment to affordable aviation for home builders.
