LucasArts Habitats Kelly's Bar and Grill, a scene born from the pioneering days of online virtual worlds. This is where it all began, in 1986, as Habitat, the first ever open world that could support up to 10,000 users simultaneously, hosted by Quantum Link for the C64. A world of its own, Habitat boasted a thriving economy with a unique world currency, objects to collect and customize, and even a blog/newspaper where users could share their thoughts and experiences. Each user had a cozy house or apartment to call their own, equipped with storage space for all their prized possessions. Communication was key in this virtual realm, facilitated through text chat that allowed friends to connect and converse in real-time. However, the experience came at a price - a steep one at that, with monthly subscription fees of $9.95 and an additional 8 cents per minute while online. Habitat's reign lasted for two glorious years, from 1986 to 1988, before it closed its virtual doors. But fear not, dear fans, for Habitat has been reborn as Neohabitat online, a testament to the enduring legacy of this groundbreaking innovation.
