Keflavik International Airport {referred to as Reykjavík-Keflavík Airport}, located in Iceland, functions as the country's main international transportation hub. Situated 1.7 NM {3.1 km; 2.0 mi} west of Keflavik and approximately 50 km [31 m] south-west of Reykjavík, the airport boasts two runways covering an area of roughly 25 sq. km {9.7 sq. mi}. The vast majority of international flights passing through Iceland utilize this airport as their primary gateway. Principal carriers, Icelandair and WOW air, have designated Keflavik as their main operational hub. Operating nearly exclusively for international flights, domestic services mostly fly out of Reykjavik Airport, conveniently situated just 3 km [1.9 mi] from Reykjavík's city centre. Limited seasonal flights from Akureyri do occasionally land at Keflavík, however. The airport is overseen by Isavia, a government-run enterprise responsible for its operation.
