Human: The environmental impact of packaging waste is growing rapidly, consuming valuable human resources and putting a heavy strain on our ecosystem. By taking small steps towards reusing and recycling materials, as well as developing and researching biodegradable alternatives, we can significantly reduce our ecological footprint. As part of the Esso Design Challenge, I created the Keep Can accessory for new cans, providing the opportunity to insulate, protect, and reseal open cans while also giving users the chance to reuse cans as small water bottles, coffee cups, or other liquid containers. The keep can is remarkably simple. First, unscrew the lid and insert a full can into the insulating Keep Can body before opening the beverage can and completely removing the aluminum tab. Next, screw on the Keep Can cap to secure a 250ml can. Finally, open the top of the Keep Can to drink as normal. The Keep Can consists of five main components: 1. The insulating body 2. The lid 3. The cap 4. The securing pin 5. The water gasket These components can be printed using standard PLA, and I've found that no support is needed on my printers at a .2mm layer height. However, the gasket requires printing in a flexible material such as flexible PLA or TPU.
