Keck Observatory
thingiverse
A replica of the Keck Observatory soars atop Mauna Kea in Hawaii. A simple yet accurate 3D printed mockup convincingly captures the observatory's distinct visual characteristics, giving it a surprisingly authentic appearance. The attached CAD file can be found on Tinkercad.com; interested makers are free to create their own refined versions while adhering to licensing requirements. The engineering team at the Keck Observatory generously provided me with the blueprints and technical information during my 1995 visit, allowing me to craft an intricately cut scale model of its two magnificent Keck Telescopes. This labor of love is a small tribute to the expertise that makes it possible for humans to push the boundaries of space exploration, and can be purchased from SpacecraftKits.com as part of their esteemed product line.
