KE065-127 Beaufort - Ogham
sketchfab
Standing on the woodland path beside the Laune River's western bank, to the southeast of Beaufort House. This is the present location where an ogham stone was discovered near Camp, KE036-083----, on the Dingle peninsula, roughly in the middle of the 19th century. The stone stands 1.25 meters high and measures .48m wide by .2m thick, currently oriented north-south. A perforation near the top suggests it may have once served as a gatepost. The stone's surface is very rough, making the inscription difficult to read, especially the vowels. Macalister interpreted it in 1945 as "CCILARI AV(I) ....COI VAG…." Traces of a second inscription are visible near the top of one angle, with the letters ANI remaining, as noted by Cuppage in 1986 (no. 801).
