KE057-133 - KNOCKAGARRANE - Ogham Stone
sketchfab
This ogham stone was uncovered in the late 1970s by Maurice Foley as he worked on laying the foundations of a house (KE057-143----). It is approximately 70m north of a souterrain (KE057-112----). Currently, it leans against a pillar in the corner of the garden beside the house. The inscription is partially legible but appears to read: …NA?R?… SEGGILLO?N. Nothing can be deciphered on the left-hand angle. The A after the initial N at the top of the stone may simply be damage to the stone, and 3 out of the 4 subsequent R's are damaged. There could be one or two letters missing between R and S. A spall exists at the bottom of the stone that could have taken a final A. Another spall is present on the arris at the second L, removing whatever vowel notches were there. There would likely be space for 3 but 2 seem more probable.
