Pre-1200 Cross-Slab This recumbent, tapering granite slab measures 1.65 meters in length and 0.30 to 0.57 meters in width at its thickest point, standing a mere 0.26 meters tall. A simple incised Latin cross marks the stone's surface. Locals refer to it as the grave of Cormac MacCuillinan, a renowned Archbishop of Cashel and King of Munster. He received his education at Diseart Diarmada Monastery under Abbot Snedgus before being buried here after his death in the Battle of Ballaghmoon around 907 or 908. The Latin cross extends along the stone's length with a noticeable gap near its center, potentially caused by weathering due to extended exposure or repeated touching. This site is believed to have been a popular pilgrimage destination.
