The ancient stone on Castledermot Round Tower bears an inscription dating back to 1657. This date coincides with the time when the church was renovated in the 17th century after suffering damage from Cromwell's forces. Archaeology.ie reports that the lower portion of the round tower remains intact, standing at approximately 20 meters high. It is constructed from granite with limestone pinnings, boasting an impressive diameter of 2.5 meters and a wall thickness of 2.37 meters. The five floors feature medieval crenellations above two string courses, although the modern floors do not align with the original levels. Access to the tower is through a flat lintelled doorway at ground level. An arched window adorns the first floor, while a flat-headed window is situated between the second and third floors. The windows at the top and crenellations are of 16th-century origin. A vaulted corridor connects the tower to the church, featuring wicker centring characteristic of 15th-century design. The survey was conducted by @Dh_Age, with funding provided by Kildare County Council Community Heritage Grant in 2017.
