KCOHG Speacker Badge
cults3d
These are the speaker badges that I created for the speakers of the newly formed Kansas City Open Hardware User Group's inaugural meetup, which was hosted by CCCKC and the Kauffman Foundation. The design is a variant that I've used before, and I decided to release it as part of the event, in keeping with the spirit of open source hardware. These badges are essentially 3mm acrylic sheets lit up by a 3mm ultra-bright LED and a battery (CR2032), which can also use thinner batteries like the 2025. The LED and battery combination is held in place by plastic covers that are 0.06 inches thick, along with snap-lock nylon rivets from McMaster. The badges assemble quickly and can be customized further by adding a piece of card stock between one of the legs of the LED and the battery, which allows it to hang out from under the cover for easy access. The badges last around 2-3 days at moderate brightness, making them perfect for most conventions or conferences. The design itself is simply an adaptation of the OSHW logo from oshwlogo.com that I quickly created for this event.
